About
Tell us a little bit about yourself – where are you from and where did you go to medical school?
I was born and raised in California. I completed my undergraduate studies at UC Davis and then attended Trinity School of Medicine for medical school.
You are a member of the House Staff and Well-being Committee; can you share a little bit about that and what made you decide to get involved?
Navigating medical school during the COVID pandemic presented unique challenges, including the emotional toll it took on many of my loved ones. This experience motivated me to join the Student Government Association, where I advocated for my peers and organized events aimed to foster a sense of community and resilience. As a resident, I felt a strong desire to continue advocacy work, and I joined the House Staff and Well-being Committee. I strive to support my colleagues’ well-being and promote a healthier, more memorable residency experience.
How do you maintain wellness here in residency?
Maintaining wellness during residency is essential for both personal health and professional well-being. A solid support system is essential, and I’ve been blessed with an amazing group of co-interns who have become my primary support network here in Gainesville. The GME Wellness program also does an excellent job of hosting various events, from kayaking to pottery painting. These events create everlasting memories with our teams together. Keeping active is another important aspect of my wellness routine. While I may not “hit the gym” regularly due to our crazy schedules, our weekly volleyball and pickleball games allowed me to bond with residents from different programs. Additionally, family plays a significant role in my life. I cherish my evening talks with both my moms, who consistently check in on me and provide emotional support.
You are now working closely with GME Wellness in helping with events. What do you hope for yourself and other residents with this new experience?
I genuinely hope to foster a greater sense of community among residents. After a long shift, it can be tough to choose between attending a wellness event or heading home to rest. However, I’ve noticed that every resident who participates leaves with a smile and looks forward to the next gathering. These events provide a valuable opportunity for us to connect outside of our work environment, share experiences and support one another.
What are you looking forward to most as you approach your second year of residency?
As I approach my second year of residency, I look forward to continuing my growth as a physician, deepening my clinical skills and gaining more confidence in my practice. Each day is a chance to learn and evolve, and I am eager to embrace the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead. Also, I’m particularly excited about the opportunity to create friendly competitions among the various residency programs. With the help of the GME Wellness team, I hope we can enhance camaraderie and cultivate a spirit of teamwork among us.
