About
Tell us a little bit about yourself such as where you are from and where you went to medical school.
I grew up in Montreal, Canada, and I completed medical school in the United Arab Emirates to stay closer to family.
You are a member of the House Staff and Well-being Committee; can you share a little bit about that and what made you decide to get involved?
I joined the HSO and Well-being Committee because I am passionate about advocating for my colleagues. As a relatively new program, we have significant opportunities to make meaningful changes, and I aim to be a voice for my peers by fostering an environment where their concerns and suggestions are heard. Being an international resident myself, I understand the unique challenges of moving to a new country and can represent the perspectives of others facing similar transitions.
How do you maintain wellness here in residency?
Residency is undeniably one of the most stressful times in our lives. If we don’t prioritize our well-being, it becomes harder to care for our patients. Fortunately, our hospital offers several ways to maintain physical, mental and spiritual health. I personally enjoy participating in the weekly soccer and basketball events when I can, and I make it a point to prioritize time for exercise each week. I appreciate our Wellness Wednesday events, and I also cherish board game nights with my co-residents, which provide a fun break from our busy routines. One of the things I’m most grateful for is the opportunity to participate in Muslim Friday prayers at NGMC, which keeps me grounded and connected to home.
Now that you’re in your third year of residency, what has been the most memorable thing thus far?
The most challenging part of residency has undoubtedly been being away from my family, but the camaraderie with fellow residents has been invaluable. We’ve gone through shared difficult periods, and the bonds we’ve formed during this time will last a lifetime.
What are your plans after graduation?
After graduation, I look forward to pursuing a fellowship in Cardiology and continuing to grow both personally and professionally.
