We are thrilled to introduce Ngoc Phan, DO as the associate program director for the Internal Medicine Residency Program of Northeast Georgia Medical Center (NGMC). Dr. Phan has been on staff at NGMC since 2016 as a part of the Northeast Georgia Physicians Group hospitalist program.

Her role as associate director of the Internal Medicine Residency Program is to work in conjunction with James Kruer, MD, director of the Internal Medicine Residency Program, in the oversight of the program, including:

  • Supervising residents
  • Ensuring quality improvement projects are integrated into the program
  • Developing curricula, evaluation methods and rotations

Dr. Phan is excited to be in a leadership position with NGMC’s Graduate Medical Education (GME) program. Her goals include:

  • Help develop a robust training program to ensure residents will become competent and well-rounded internists who stay in the state to practice medicine
  • Recruit inaugural residents who will be a good fit with NGMC’s core values
  • Assist Dr. Kruer with all program needs

“The first class of residents will be the pioneers to NGMC’s Internal Medicine Residency Program and will provide valuable input in the development of the program for future residents,” Phan said. “The inaugural class will be involved in every aspect of our health system and will make long-term, positive impacts on our culture.”

Dr. Phan was born in Vietnam and moved to Georgia when she was nine. She attended Georgia State for her undergraduate work and Philadelphia College of Medicine in Suwannee, Georgia for medical school.  She trained at Sacred Heart Health System in Pensacola, Florida for her internal medicine residency. After moving back to Georgia, she was thrilled when the opportunity to work at NGMC presented itself. Working back in her home state and for a well-established and nationally renowned health system were important criteria in her decision to join the staff at Northeast Georgia Health System.

Dr. Phan is married to Thinh Truong and has two daughters, Hanna (8) and Helena (5). The family lives in Suwanee, Georgia and loves it there. “We are far enough from the crux of Atlanta but still have all the conveniences available to us, such as awesome restaurants, grocery stores and shopping malls,” Phan said.

In her free time, Dr. Phan enjoys traveling with her family as well as cooking and reading.
