Congratulations to newly elected co-presidents of the Northeast Georgia Medical Center’s (NGMC) Graduate Medical Education (GME) House Staff Organization (HSO), Internal Medicine resident Aman “Amy” Kaur, D.O., and General Surgery resident Elaine Mirabile, M.D.

The House Staff Organization is a forum that is required by the ACGME for all Sponsoring Institutions. The HSO allows residents from all programs to communicate and exchange information. The HSO represents the concerns and suggestions of all residents to the DIO (John E. Delzell, Jr., M.D., MSPH) and the rest of the GMEC. The officers are elected by their peers. “The HSO also serves as the liaison body to the Hospital leadership,” says Dr. Delzell.

“As far as being a co-president of the HSO, I feel my biggest responsibility will be to advocate for my colleagues in residency. I think it’s always important to have a leader that can voice concerns and/or improvements in an institution.”

“Additionally, we are involved in planning events with director of resident wellness, Holly Stewart, BSW, MSOL. We’re really looking forward to leading a forum where residents can voice their questions and suggestions for our growing GME program” says Dr. Kaur.

Drs. Kaur and Mirabile will be developing the mission and values for the HSO, as well as gaining feedback on the future structure of the organization. “The House Staff Organization is a great opportunity for our residents to develop leadership skills,” says Dr. Delzell.

NGMC GME is excited to provide this additional level of communication and advocacy to ensure that current and future residents continue to receive exceptional graduate medical education training and provide outstanding clinical care for patients and the community.
