The incoming class of general surgery residents at Northeast Georgia Medical Center (NGMC), in July 2019, will have the unique opportunity to train at multiple medical center locations across northeast Georgia. The residents in our Graduate Medical Education (GME) program will spend a majority of their time training at our two flagship hospitals – NGMC Gainesville and NGMC Braselton.

Northeast Georgia Medical Center – Gainesville

NGMC Gainesville serves as the major participating site for the residency program. Our Gainesville location is a 557-bed acute care hospital that serves as a regional tertiary referral center with Level II trauma designation, serving over 1,400 trauma patients each year. Residents will have 24/7 access to resident work areas, a medical library with study areas, computer workspace and additional resources.

Northeast Georgia Medical Center – Braselton

Braselton is a 100-bed hospital that brings services modeled around the programs of excellence at NGMC Gainesville to the Greater Braselton community. Our Braselton location is situated approximately 16 miles from the Gainesville campus and offers some of the same resident workspace benefits.

Residents on both campuses will participate in the same didactic conferences through video conferencing capabilities at both sites.

Residents in our program will work one-on-one with experienced general surgeons who provide care for patients in all areas of general surgery. NGMC’s residents will complete monthly rotations on surgical services with direct supervision designed to focus on producing general surgeons who are ready for private practice or advanced fellowship training.
